Quarantined and Closed for Business but Still Hopeful!

April 27, 2020

What has transpired throughout the country is something that will be read about in history. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think we would have to deal with anything like this. Being quarantine for almost 40 days due to COVID19 has not been easy on many families and small business owners. It has taken lives and will forever change the way we live.

With all the negativity and news regarding the pandemic, I needed to redirect my frustrations and the feelings I was having. I needed to let out some energy, which I’m sure most of us are feeling the same way, by doing something productive. I wanted to feel like I was “working”! Since March 12, 2020, my photography business has been shut down. I know I am not alone when I say, it’s been HARD!

Even with all the hardship and frustration, I’ve also found this downtime to be helpful. I’ve tried to find the positivity in it as much as I can. It has allowed me to tackle TWO things I’ve needed to do for a long time but didn’t have the “time”. One is to catch up with all my editing and the second was to paint the studio and organize it.

Catching up with my Editing

Back in November 2019, my worst nightmare became a reality. Actually ANY photographers worst nightmare! My external hard drive with the last three years of my work, 2017 – 2018 – 2019 and all my current work…CRASHED! IT JUST TOOK A CRAP! STOPPED WORKING!! Do you get my point? lol!

I wanted to crumble, I wanted to quit and I cried for days! But being in this business for so many years, I knew things like this CAN happen. So Thank God, I had taken precautions a few years back and had all my external hard drives backed up to BackBlaze. Backblaze literally saved my business and is worth every single penny! I highly recommend them. With a low-cost fee, they were able to retrieve my entire external hard drive and mail it to me. This put me almost two months behind on work. The stress I was under was no joke and now, I am up to date with all editing…FINALLY!

Painting the Studio and Organizing it!

As I continue to grow my business and evolve I want to make sure the studio does too. It needed a little TLC and some minor changes that will help flow better through sessions. Besides, I LOVE to paint!

When I first painted the studio it was Flat White and boy was that a mistake! If you know anything about paint, flat paint is not easy to clean. With the constant moving of my equipment, little fingers from the cutest clients touching the walls, and just everyday wear and tear, they were pretty bad.

This was the perfect time to do this since I had no clients scheduled. It took me two days to repaint in Glossy White this time, which makes it a bit easier to clean! I had a few people ask me “Are you painting white on white?” Yes, yes I am, but it’s different lol!

I love how it turned out and it made me feel like new beginnings are ahead! I am incredibly thankful and blessed to have my studio space. I will continue to work hard every day to sustain my business. Even during these difficult times. I am eager, excited, anxious and so ready to get back to work!

I am currently booking for June and beyond! I have implemented new safety measures and precautions to keep me and my clients safe! It is my number one priority!

In the end, soon enough we will be able to get back to our “normal” lives. I hope and pray all of you are staying safe and are well! I love what I do and I want to continue capturing your special memories.
